What started as a small toothache, today has claimed our dear brother’s entire face and mouth. James Chotamasege, an orphan living with his uncle in Bagamoyo has Stage 4 Cancer, Advanced Osteosarcoma ( cancer of the bones)

James’ current situation has him relegated to only drinks; water milk and juice. Its so sad on top of that given the conditions he is living under. A house without windows, no electricity, dusty floors.

Paying a visit to James Chotamasege, Juliana Christopher together with two of her friends were deeply touched with James’ condition who if only had been healthy and fine; should be in University in his third year.

A brief history of James’ condition

James Chotamasege was born in 1991, unfortunately he lost both his parents in 2006 becoming an orphan. He had hopes and dreams to fulfill all that came to s stand still.

It was the year 2013, James was riding his bicycle along the road unfortunately a lorry was rushing by and he tried dodging the lorry falling into a trench. He went for medical check up and was administered meagre pain killers at Bunju Hospital citing that it was a minor injury.

After some months, James started feeling a lot of pain in his leg, upon which he was referred to other better hospitals for further check up. Mr Kipingu his headteacher then provided the required money for further checkups. He went to a referral hospital in Kibaha where the results indicated he had fractured his leg bone.. and blood had sipped through his bone cavity causing a clot that had developed into cancerous cells. It was then that the problems started.

His leg was to be amputated (cut-off) to save his life. Peers, colleagues and the community contributed to this sum and his leg was amputated.

June 2017, James started feeling pain in his lower jaw molar teeth. He paid a visit to a dentist who referred him to Muhimbili. He went for further tests upon which it was discovered he had stage 4 cancer.

He sincerely appreciates the efforts of the doctors at Muhimbili National Hospital and Ocean Road. He is now back at home receiving minimal treatment on painkillers to reduce the pain. The pain is unendurable as he cannot swallow nor chew through his mouth.

He wrote this message on a piece of paper which translates… into

I hope to re seat my Form 4 papers… this year. I have hope I shall. The doctors told me the swelling could be reduced once an opening has been found. I am on painkillers but soon I hope to undergo an operation and recover a bit in time for my papers,” said James

Hopefully though we cannot provide enough but atleast the little we can provide lets share it.We are calling upon all the people out there who can provide any help.
