The minister of Education, Science and Technology,Prof. Joyce Ndalichako recently stormed the Higher Education Students loans Board demanding an explanation about 168 students of University of Dar es salaam, and 919 students of University of Dodoma who are seen to be receiving loans worth three billions tanzania shillings, but are not registered and recognised in the respective universities. Speaking to the press earlier today in Dar es salaam, Prof. Ndalichako says that money has been loaned to ghost students therefore the loans board is answerable to such a calamity and necessary punishment be taken with immediate effect.
Prof. Ndalichako has given the respective officials a deadline of two weeks, to support their claim and present a report of recognition for the respective students in the mentioned universities or return the money back to the government treasury.
She further acclaimed that the loans office should carefully audit and investigate the issue of 2619 students who used up to 700 billion tanzania shillings but used one senior four registration number.
She has also warned all the officed under her ministry to do internal auditing of their accounts carefully and not wait for external auditing.
